Stephen Maher, CEO of MBA posed this question to the panellists at our Question Time event last week. This is what they said.
Luke Johnson, Pizza Express entrepreneur: ” The automatic assumption that if you’re an entrepreneur it’s because you’re greedy and money is the only objective. It’s not. It’s about building something, about following your dreams.”
Mark Thomson, Royal Mail: “I hate the way local attractions use marketing to make out it’s some kind of amazing destination and after hours in the car with kids, it’s completely disappointing. It’s just dressing up crap.”
Roisin Donnelly, Procter & Gamble: ” I hate how long it takes to do things.”
Catherine Woolfe, EON: ” I hate it when people research things to death.”
Nick Vetch, Big Yellow entrepreneur: “I hate businessman who say they’re not greedy. I hate jargon and a lot of marketing jargon.”

How about some love?
I love it when marketers use their gut instincts and common sense.
I love Richard Branson, James Dyson and Mike Lynch. Britain needs more business people like them.
I love business people who invest their profits into R&D.
I love business people who think ahead, long-term. Who consider and prepare for the consequences of their actions (as BP didn’t).
Nice list Dean. And good to turn the question on its head. I still remember James Dyson’s appearance at the Annual Conference years ago, he was impressive.
I liked Stephen’s question though on what you hate most, because it was unexpected. Like questions on failure rather than success, I suspect we can learn a lot from the negatives.
