This week we meet Ross MacCallum, Managing Director at Brand Impact Merchandising.
What’s your golden rule?
In business, I always aim to under promise and over deliver.
Who has been your biggest influence?
David Reid from Because Brands Matter. There are very few marketing consultants with his experience and expertise working in industry today. He has been instrumental in positioning Brand Impact as a leading promotional merchandise supplier in Scotland and around the UK.
What is your most hated business expression?
“I will have a word with the finance department.” In the current economic climate, I think all businesses appreciate it if they are paid on time.
What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?
Opening a buying office in Hong Kong has given us a competitive edge as my colleague over there, Vijay Nainani, sources the latest products and best suppliers to ensure our clients have access to the best promotional merchandise available.
Which leader do you admire most and why?
Lance Armstrong, he won the Tour de France seven consecutive times and overcame cancer to return to competitive cycling. His dedication and tenacity is extraordinary. He thought nothing about training on Christmas day. I am also impressed by the work he has done for his Livestrong cancer research and support foundation.
What’s your favourite word?
‘Whisky’. I enjoy relaxing with the family after a busy week with a malt. Amongst my favourites are a Glengoyne 10 year old.
Tell us a secret
In the late 90s, my wife and I attended Kiefer Sutherland’s second wedding in Canada. I also helped him dress correctly in his kilt.
