Our experience from working with hundreds of marketing leaders is that you’re in the minority if you can positively answer this question. Here are two actions for you to take this week to start your journey. First, write down the words that describe the leader you want to be. Second, go and ask others for the words they would use to describe you as a leader. Compare the two and come back next week for the step two in our series on how you can become an even bolder marketing leader.”

The Top 10 Considerations for mobile marketing by Paul Berney, MD EMEA, Mobile Marketing Association.
First a caveat, the following are not definitive golden rules but some sensible pointers, and for the record, they were learned from over seven years’ experience in mobile – the last two in a neutral international role with a view of hundreds of campaigns from every part of the world.
- Mobile is about customer acquisition, retention and brand building. Marketers should consider how the mobile channel can be used for those three fundamental tasks.
- An easy way to work out where mobile fits into the marketing mix is to map the customer journey and all the touch points and figure out where mobile could be used to extend, enhance or replace other channels.
- Mobile works best when integrated into campaigns from the start. You increase the likelihood of mobile being considered a failure if it is added as an afterthought or used as a standalone channel.
- Mobile allows consumers to act at the point of impulse. This is one of the reasons it works so well as a call to action on other media like TV, radio, outdoor and display. The fastest way anyone can react to any call to action is to put their hand in their pocket and text a single keyword to a five-digit shortcode. The Marketers’ Golf Society Spring Meeting 2010
Following last years success of finding a new venue with 2 championship courses we are delighted to be going to this wonderful club with its two excellent courses set in the parkland of Sundridge Palace. It is well known for its superb layout, fabulous views and only 7 miles from the centre of London.
Format of the day
We will play our normal format of 2 ball Stableford in the morning, then after an excellent lunch we will play a Greensome. The day concludes with prize giving and refreshments. More information on the Marketer’s Golf Society Day

The inaugural ‘Makes You Think’ session on Monday 1 March was a great success, it satisfied the synapses and the guests picked up a mind virus or two from John Kearon’s Me-to-We Research ideas. Our second Makes You Think session comes from the frontiers of marketing and human behaviour. Mark Earls, author of theHerd will be sharing his dogma busting challenge that the ultimate marketing is not one-to-one marketing but Herd marketing. The latest science shows we’re much less individual than we think we are and far more influenced by other people than we would care to admit. We’re designed for a world of other people and what we do to each other has far greater effect than traditional ‘persuasion marketing’. Mark will help us challenge the way we think about marketing.
Format of the evening – Growth Drivers Marketing Think Tank
This is an interactive breakfast session hosted by Alex Batchelor – one of our Thought Leaders. The format of this event is a talk, that will ‘Make you Think’ followed by a participation exercise where the audience will split into groups and then present their ideas to the rest of the audience and open to discussion or a vote.
