Three interesting things:

1. Technology democratises product design, meaning you can make more things in the name of marketing: http://www.newspaperclub.co.uk/. Papers today, but 3D printers of tomorrow, can I cheaply make Marmite Shampoo instead of just pretending it exists?

2. Selfridges have come up with something that seems genuinely useful as well as quite clever. Brand utility is what it’s all about http://www.showstudio.com/project/mirrormirror/.

3. If ‘brand utility’ can sell make-up, it can also do good, whether that’s helping victims of Haiti or alcoholics who are trying to manage their addiction http://www.google.com/relief/haitiearthquake/,

What should all good marketers know about digital today?
Good digital marketing is about giving consumers gifts that make them fans.

Remote golf coaching online from top coaches. I had the idea about 10 years ago, didn’t ’go for it’ and now it’s commonplace.

What’s your proudest achievement?

WCRS being Agency of the Year twice under my leadership

Who is your leadership hero and why?

Anyone who is very successful but retains genuine humility.

What single thing can we do today to become better marketing leaders?

Less emailing, more thinking.

If you could edit your past, what would you change?

2009 wasn’t vintage.

What’s your worst habit?

Practising my golf swing with an imaginary club.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?

Does ‘Cheryl Cole’ make me sound superficial?

What keeps you awake at night?

Very little

What books are on your bedside table?

‘The Plot Against America’ by Philip Roth.
